More than 56 per cent, of the volume of the trading in yesterday's market was in Sugar stock, and the interest in its fluctuations was so great that at times the trading posts of all other specialties were abandoned by brokers to join in the Sugar crowd. The news from Washington was anxiously waited for, and pending the announcement of the voting in the Senate the price was very strong.

CHICAGO, June 5. -- Wheat scored another advance to-day, and, although the bulls made complaint that the grain was not proportionate to the value of the news, still they were satisfied that prices closed 1/6c higher than they did yesterday. There were many influences at work, and it would not have been surprising had there been a more substantial upturn.

A lion cub about as big as a Skye terrier and striped, yellow and black strayed down Third Avenue from Harlem yesterday to explore that section of the city and inspect the cable system. Its curiosity nearly cost it its life, for it came very near to being run over by one of the cars.
