From Washington, we have a confirmation of the rumor that has been prevalent for several days, in a variety of phases, of a difficulty between the President and Gen. FREMONT, that seems likely to result in the removal of Gen. FREMONT from his command.

BROOKLYN NEWS.

THE KNIFE. -- A man named JAMES F. CONWAY, while intoxicated yesterday, went on board of one of the South Ferry boats, in the slip at the foot of Atlantic-street, and, without any provocation whatever, made an attack with a knife upon the engineer, Mr. THOMAS BEARD, whom he stabbed three times before the knife was taken from him. The wounds inflicted are not considered dangerous. CONWAY was arrested and committed to answer.
