A VOLUME on the picturesque houses in England with a comprehensive gallery of drawings will appear in a month or so from the press of Dodd, Mead Co. The author is W. Outram Tristram, who calls his book "Moated Houses." Another Dodd-Mead publication which is expected to arouse much comment is a thinly velled anonymous volume of memoirs by "the Widow of an American Diplomat."

HEARD TALE OF THE 'SCHEPS'; Delighted Newark Children Want "News of Poor "Uncle Ben," Too.

The children of the South Canal Street Playground in Newark assembled in the recreation house yesterday afternoon at the story-telling hour and heard another of "Uncle Ben's" tales -- "The Scheps Who Wouldn't Say Baa" -- read to them. This tale proved as fascinating to the Newark City Playground youngsters as did "The Ice Palace," the favorite of the Door old story-teller, who is in Gouverneur Hospital in a pitiable condition from starvation.

WHEAT UP ON FROST; Disappointing Grading, with Cold Weather News from Many Points, Make Sellers Wary.

The wheat market was quiet and firm on Saturday. American markets gained 1/2 to 3/4, while the Winnipeg market was up about 1 1/2 on predictions of frost for Saturday night and also on reports of freezing temperatures Saturday morning at a number of points. There was also some buying on the reports of quite general rain in the western part of the wheat provinces, interfering with harvesting.
