Another sinking spell in the stock market yesterday carried many of the industrial specialties down to the lowest prices for the current year. There were some developments in the day's news to account for the further reaction. Call money was again loaned at 5 per cent., which was ascribed to local shifting of accounts and calling of loans by interior banks in anticipation of a national bank call.

Yesterday's recovery in stocks occurred despite several attempts on the part of the professional element to force a renewal of the decline in prices. A firm tone prevailed at the opening and initial prices in most instances recorded gains. During the first hour a concerted drive developed against the motors and specialties, causing general unsettlement and declines of 1 to 2 points.
